Common San Diego Remodeling Questions

Not finding what you're looking for?

Q: What remodeling services do you offer in San Diego?
We are a full-service Design and Build contractor. Our outdoor remodeling services include full backyard and front yard transformations, outdoor kitchens, pavers, concrete, artificial turf, patio covers, and structural retaining walls. Our indoor remodeling services include room additions, ADUs, garage conversions, kitchen, and bathroom remodeling.
No. As a Design and Build firm, we handle your entire project under one roof. We manage the 3D design, engineering, city permits, HOA approvals, and the final construction. You get single-source accountability from concept to completion.
We start with a free on-site consultation to measure your space and discuss your goals. Once we move forward together, we create detailed 3D renderings of your project. This allows you to see exactly how the new layout and materials will look before any construction begins.
Yes. Most major remodeling projects in San Diego require city permits, and many require HOA approval. We handle the entire permitting process in-house and provide the exact plans, material lists, and 3D renderings your HOA review board needs.
Yes. Our crew handles all heavy demolition and haul-away. We completely clear out the existing space—whether it is an old concrete patio or a gutted bathroom—before the new build phase ever begins. Demolition and removal costs are included in your project quote.
Project costs depend heavily on the square footage, scope of work, structural requirements, and the premium materials you select. We provide a clear, exact price during your on-site consultation so there are no surprise costs later. For a detailed breakdown of returns, review our 2025 Cost vs. Value Report.
Yes. We partner with top lenders to offer flexible financing options, including $0 down plans. You can upgrade your property immediately without draining your savings.

Simon and the ownership team manage the project on-site throughout the process. We do not hand your property off to a random crew and disappear. We respect your home, keep the job site clean, and ensure the craftsmanship meets our strict standards.

We serve all of San Diego County. Our crews work throughout North County (Carlsbad, Encinitas, San Marcos, Escondido, Poway, Rancho Bernardo), coastal areas (La Jolla, Del Mar, Pacific Beach), central San Diego, East County (La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee), and South County (Chula Vista, Bonita). If you are in San Diego County, we can help.

Yes. New Age Design & Build is fully licensed (License #1117768) by the California Contractors State License Board and carries general liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage. We are happy to provide proof of insurance and license verification upon request.
We provide a workmanship warranty on all labor and many material manufacturers offer their own product warranties on top of that. Warranty terms are covered during your consultation. We stand behind our work and are available to address any post-installation concerns.

We operate as a Design and Build firm, which means one team handles the entire project. Most contractors build from plans someone else drew. We create the 3D design, pull the permits, manage the HOA approval process, and build it. You have one point of contact from the first site visit to the final walkthrough. Simon and the ownership team are on-site throughout the project, not handing your property off to a crew and checking in occasionally.
Yes. Many of our projects combine both. A common example is a full backyard remodel paired with a kitchen update or a garage conversion. When outdoor and indoor work happen together, we coordinate the sequencing, permits, and crews as one project. You get a single quote, a single timeline, and a single point of accountability.
Yes. We plan for phased projects when that approach makes sense. Some homeowners start with the outdoor work and return for interior improvements later. Others tackle the structural work first and finish the cosmetic elements in a second phase. When budget or timing requires phasing, we design the full project from the start so each phase integrates cleanly with the next.

Timelines depend on the scope of work, structural requirements, and city permit wait times. A single-trade outdoor project typically builds faster than a full room addition or ADU, which involves more permitting and inspections. Once construction begins, our ownership team is on-site daily to keep the project moving. We provide weekly progress updates throughout so you always know what is happening.

We handle change requests directly with the ownership team. Minor adjustments can typically be incorporated without affecting the schedule. Structural changes or additions that affect permits or materials will be documented as a change order with a clear cost and timeline impact before any work proceeds. We do not make changes to scope without your explicit approval and a written update to the contract.
Yes. We design and build custom pools as part of full backyard transformations. We integrate the pool with the surrounding hardscape, pool decks, and outdoor entertaining areas so everything is built as one cohesive project. We specialize in new pool construction, not pool repairs or crack remediation.

Generally, yes. San Diego’s median home sale price was approximately $950,000 as of March 2026. Buyers at that price point expect well-finished outdoor living spaces, updated kitchens, and functional additional square footage. Quality remodeling work increases both market value and time to sell. The actual return depends on the project type, scope, neighborhood, and finish quality, which we can speak to during your consultation.
